AFFILIATE MARKETING
*IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have an ad blocker, it must be disabled for you to see the amazon affiliate ads.
There are 3 main places you can ad affiliate ads.
- in the sidebar
- in other widget areas outside of the sidebar
- in a post
First I will review how to get the code. Afterwards I will review where to place it.
HOW TO GET THE CODE (for product links)
-sign into your amazon affiliates account, click on product linking => product links
Here you can search for products by keywords. (“Travel” for example).
When you find an item you would like you to use, click the “get link” button. You will then be able to choose what type of ad to use. Text and image, just text, or just image.
After you select the options you want and choose what type of ad you want, you can scroll down to see the code. Press the highlight code button then press ctrl+c (command+c on mac) to copy the code. Paste the code in the corresponding section you want.( skip to “adding the code” section for info)
HOW TO GET THE CODE (for banner ads)
Click on product linking => banners.
Choose whatever category of ad you would like.
It will then give you different size options. Go to the size you want. Click on the JS (this is responsive) option. Click the “highlight html” button and press ctrl+c (command+c on a mac) to copy the code. Paste it in the corresponding area you want. ( skip to “adding the code” section for info)
HOW TO GET THE CODE (for native shopping ads)
Native shopping ads are smart ads. They are responsive show different amount of ads depending on the space allotted to them. There are 3 types.
- Recommendation ads – these are based off categories you select that are relevant to your content. Unfortunately I dont see a travel category so you may have to use one of the next two types.
- Search ads – ads you can display based off of specific searches. For example, a search for “travel planners” will give you the code to display the results for travel planners.
- Custom ads – these are similar to search ads but you can select specific products individually.
Grid format will show the products with images and text.
List format will give you the code to display the products as just text in a list format.
For this example I will show you a search ad.
Click on Product linking => Native shopping ads
Click on the “Create ad unit” button then select “search ads”
Choose “grid” or “list” then type what you would like to search for in the search term box and press the enter/return key.
You will now see the results of your search which is your preview for your ads. The code will be generated below. Press the “highlight ad code” button and press ctrl+c (command+c on mac) to copy the code. Paste in the corresponding area. ( See “adding the code” section)
ADDING THE CODE
1-In the sidebar
In the wordpress backend go to appearance =>widgets. Scroll down to “text” under available widgets. Click on the “text” box and add it to the sidebar.
A “text” box will now appear under the “sidebar” section.
Make sure that you are in the “text” tab (not the visual) and paste your code. Click the save button and the ads will now display in the “text” box you have created in your sidebar.
2.in other widget areas outside of the sidebar
There are other widget areas that have been created like “bottom 1, bottom2, under header etc.” If you click on the box, it will describe to you where on your site that widget area exists. For example “bottom 4” is located below the instagram widget area. Bottom 4 spans the entire width of the bottom of the website. If we drag a “text” box there and input the code on the “text” tab, the ads will appear there. If you take that “text” box and place it in a different area like “under header” it will display there instead.
3.in a post
You can put the ads within a post or page as long as you paste the code into the “text” tab. Paste it where you want it to be displayed.
