An Adventure in Atlanta: Minutes, Hours or Days in the “New York of the South”

Whether because of the traffic, huge airports, or abundance of sports teams, Atlanta has certainly been on the rise in the last few years, and while comparing it to New York may be a stretch, my multiple trips over the last few years have taught me some great ways to pass the time here…

Minutes: Limited on time at ATL airport? Skip the crowded train to save your sanity and explore the underground exhibits between the terminals. My personal favorite is the immersive forest experience between terminals A and B.

Hours: Don’t miss the Atlanta Botanical Garden…despite being minutes off the busiest road I75 this refuge offers 30 acres of tranquility and calm and is one of my favorite gardens in the country. If your time allows, consider adding a stop at the (touristy and ktlantaitschy but neat) World of Coke in downtown and sampling flavors from across the globe.

Days: Get out of town! Go beyond the city limits and explore the nearby small towns, like charming main street Blue Ridge, Georgia, which is less than two hours away. On the way, spend your time strolling around magical vineyards. (They are not as good as Napa, but certainly better than what you’d expect). Buckley and Cartecay are great, as is  the ever-evolving Mercier Apple Orchards

Atlanta is non-stop from over 200 cities across the globe and has the busiest airport in the world. Remember to leave early because the lines at security may be long. But buy yourself some souvenirs or relax at an airport lounge and ruminate about your Atlanta adventures.
