Set to Jet Snacking: Matt’s Top 10 Travel Foods

I attended the Winter Fancy Food Show in Las Vegas with one goal in mind: Find the best non-perishable, healthy(ish) snacks to travel with.

After speaking with hundreds of vendors and sampling bites from around the world here are my fave snacks for consideration when you travel.

  1. Poshi artichokes: This healthy, fresh, light snack is easy for on-the-go munching and the entire pouch contains fewer than 25 calories. Not an artichoke fan? Check out their other portable veggies!
  2. Salsa Queen Freeze-dried salsas: These were shocking to my inner salsa snob. The convenient just-add-water pouches have a 3-year shelf life. Their brand is some of the best salsa I’ve ever had. Most hotel markets and convenience stores sell chips, so you can have a Taco Tuesday experience any day of the week wherever you are.
  3. Truff Hot Sauce: Travelers know that hotel or airline lounge breakfasts might be far from gourmet and adding some of this 1.5oz deliciously flavored sauce is a quick way to turn up the heat on any meal. You can even use it on those normally bland airplane meals!
  4. Jake’s Bloody Mary Almonds: They are designed to fit in your car cupholder and contain 6g of protein and zero added sugar. They are healthy AND delicious.
  5. Confetti Veggie Chips: Have that chip craving, but don’t want so many carbs and calories? Crunch away without guilt. (You can even dip them in salsa! See #2.)
  6. Olibites: A resealable snack that’s resealable is always a win. And olives are a great alternative to chips and nuts.
  7. Thunderbird Superfood bars: I’m often a “bar” person (the snacks, not just cocktail lounges.) But be sure to read ingredients. Many of them are packed with sugar, carbs, and chemicals. This brand has great flavors, including Texas maple pecan. They are paleo and have no added sugar.
  8. Wella Cereal:  These are another oh-so-convenient-just-add water food. Start your day with a healthy fiber-rich breakfast (and save money while you’re at it)!
  9. Fruitons Dried Fruits:  We Bleisure Living types often don’t get enough fruits and vegetables in our diets — expecially on the road. These are resealable and come in a variety of fruit options.
  10. Nature’s Garden Yoggies: I love dessert! However, I know that desserts and sweet things can take their toll on health and weight. These probiotic-packed snacks are fresh and natural.

But if you don’t eat sugar, gluten, or dairy (like Nancy, our Publisher), always read packages carefully. I was her taster at the show for products containing any of those ingredients. (We don’t judge — we just love to travel and eat!)

And if you’re in the food world, be sure to join Nancy at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York. Food tourism can be the best part of Bleisure Living!
