Where did 2023 go?!
Reflecting on 60 nights of vacationing and working globally, I see 2024 is starting with so much excitement and travel goals.
(And remember to unpack from your holiday adventures; starting a new year with clean laundry and a tidy living/working space can help you focus!)
As you prepare your calendar for the next 365 days of Bleisure Living, consider these 5 tips:
- Add nights to work trips. Even if you are sent somewhere “against your will,” add a day or two, so you have dedicated exploring time or can take a side trip.
- Making a job change? Consider travel policies. If you’re a wanderluster, you may not be happy with a role that requires you to sit behind the same desk every day. Choose a role that enables you to feed your passion for travel while still getting the job done well!
- Extend your weekends. My most popular work-from-hotel (or resort) days are Mondays and Fridays. For your next personal trip, fly in on Thursday evening and work remotely on Friday. Worried about travel and your PTO? Check out this guide for turning 11 days into 44.
- Pick a hotel loyalty plan. Shorter check-in lines and later checkouts are among the elite perks you may enjoy, along with free meals and free nights. The year has just begun, and many elite programs now just require 10 nights to earn status. Decide on the program best for you to make every stay count. Hyatt and Hilton are my faves, but most brands offer loyalty points these days!
- Pick your people. Although traveling solo can be fun, you may want to socialize when you’re on the road. Recruiting your Bleisure Living companions is both an art and a science. Start planting the seeds early with your crew and read Nancy’s tips on avoiding the worst travel companions. If you’re traveling with people from your company you can’t control that. But always make the best of your journeys and create some “alone time” if you can. We’ll be diving into workplace travel etiquette in some of our 2024 posts.
