NOTE: This was the first-ever collab from THREE Bleisure Living staff members! We ALL love H2O!
With the summer approaching, being trapped indoors during warm sunny weather can feel oppressive.
Whether you’re working or playing (or both), being near water has amazing health benefits.
And, although you should slather on that SPF30 (minimum), sunshine can be wonderful for wellness and productivity.
Whether you work remotely, have business obligations while on vacation, or are traveling with colleagues to a location that has a pool, lake, or ocean, we can offer some great tips for being productive while enjoying some H2O.
Where Should You Splash (or Simply Stare at the Water)?
Some local resorts in warm climates and summer offer day passes and cabanas. Check out ResortPass for options.
If you belong to a gym that has an outdoor pool, simply bring your laptop bag and phone along with your workout attire and spend a few hours on a chaise.
Feeling adventurous? Book a trip for a day or two at a hotel or resort with water features.
Bring Your Gear and Data But Keep it Safe & Healthy
The sun, sand, and SPF products can be toxic to electronics. Here are some power tips:
- Make sure you’re working in a place that has strong wi-fi by the water.
- Bring your charger and perhaps even a power pack if you don’t have plugs nearby.
- Keep an eye on your devices if you go into the water.
- Here are some cool pool-friendly accessories for your waterside workation:
- Waterproof phone pouch that floats so you don’t miss important calls or pings while enjoying the water
- Sunshade for your laptop because it can be impossible to see your screen when the sun’s shining bright
- Transition sunglasses with UVA, UVB, and blue light lens treatment to protect your eyes from the changing brightness of the sun, your laptop, and moving between indoor and outdoor lighting
- If you make phone calls in public places, be mindful of your surroundings (especially when discussing proprietary work information or complaining about co-workers. You never know who’s nearby!)
Dress for Success (Even in a Bathing Suit)
If you’re traveling alone, wear whatever makes you happy.
BUT…if you’re on a group trip with colleagues and clients, be mindful of how much skin (and other assets) you show.
- Men: Now is probably not the time to show off your hard work at the gym and rock a Speedo. Instead, keep your shirt on until you enter the water, and aim for a longer rather than shorter bathing suit.
- These trunks are knee-length and have a spandex underlayer to make sure everything stays in place.
- Wear a swim shirt too for more coverage (especially if you have a dad bod or need more sun protection).
- Women: You don’t have to wear a caftan, but you don’t want to provoke office gossip about your tats, boobs, or butt. Thongs and skimpy bikinis are probably not a great look for office outings. A stylish cover-up is a must-pack accessory.
- This tankini with a high neckline is fun but modest.
- A one-piece swimdress provides some leg coverage and is still fashionable.
- Worried about your gut? Check out this tummy control swimdress with even more coverage! And it comes in so many colors and prints!
- Cover up when your boss drops by, or you have impromptu gatherings with colleagues. A long sarong like this one is a stylish and easy-to-pack accessory. Want even more coverage? This beach shirt can do double duty with leggings for a night out. Or, let your inner goddess shine with a flowy caftan.
- Both: Pool footwear is a must-have. These water shoes dry quickly, are lightweight, and provide protection from nasty things on the pool deck, shower, or beach. Waterproof metallic thongs (the shoes) like these can take women from the pool to evening attire. But be sure to get a pedicure! Bleisure Living travelers should always pack these — no matter where they’re going. They are perfect for that pool/beach day, an outdoor walk, a shopping trip, and even dirty laundry!
