Ready to jet-set like a boss? Stuff these in your tote or backpack. (I do!)
- Comfortable, cool clothing. Look fly, feel fly. Find that outfit sweet spot: chic enough to be presentable, stretchy enough to nap sitting down. Comfort doesn’t mean sacrificing style and you never know who is going to get assigned the seat next to you. Bring a light jacket. The airplane temp can be unpredictable. And don’t forget SOCKS! If TSA is closed, you don’t have to fear fungus. Your piggies will be cozy in-flight too.
- A small hygiene kit. Hit the bathroom 45 minutes pre-landing and emerge anew. (Don’t use airplane tap water, however.) Moisturize with a face wipe and use a small brush or comb to style your hair. No one will believe you just deplaned when you reach your destination.
- Analog entertainment. In-air wifi can fail. A notebook, magazine (or juicy novel or bio), or even playing cards can keep you from hours of boredom. And remember — napping doesn’t require any special equipment.
Don’t over-stuff, but if you’re also checking a bag, ask yourself, “If I got stranded with just my carry-on, would I have enough basics to get through a few hours (or, worst case, overnight)?
