As we approach the winter holidays, we’ll be traveling far and wide to visit friends and relatives.
In fact, close to 2M more people will be on the road in 2024 than in 2023, according to AAA.
Whether you’re driving or flying, you will likely be bringing gifts, clothes appropriate to your destination, and, and perhaps even food for holiday feasting.
This is the first part of a 2-part series on “things” to bring for others (and yourself) and tips to lighten your packing load. (With that many people traveling, you can be sure those overhead bins will be jammed.)
For You:
You may need to work during the holiday season (after all Bleisure combined business and leisure).
- Consider this collapsible laptop lift to avoid neck strain and help you look your best on camera.
- Speaking of cameras, if you are into social media, remember to pack a lightweight tripod (like this cool colorful one featured on Shark Tank). If you’re really into selfies and family photos and videos or you’re a podcaster, consider investing in a portable ring light and mic too!
- I use a string bag instead of a traditional laptop case when I travel. It’s lightweight and it fits easily into a carry-on.
Packing lightweight sneakers and an exercise outfit will make it easier to burn off those feasting calories. No excuses.
For Others:
- Consider ordering and sending treats in advance so you don’t have to stuff your suitcase full of perishable (or crushable) items.
- Experiences are as popular as things these days. Treat your loved ones to tickets to a special concert or theater show or a sports game. (Plus, tickets don’t take up any space in your suitcases — especially when they’re digital!)
- Gift cards are another lightweight way to spread holiday joy.
Our second installment will include some specific travel-related gift ideas.
But remember this: the skies and roads will be jam-packed this holiday season. The best gift you can give yourself and your loved ones is the gift of peace and love, so don’t stress if you encounter delays.
And if your company or client demands that a project be completed during the holiday season, time block so you can keep the L in Bleisure Living!
