As we approach year-end, I squeezed in two final Bleisure Living journeys.
I visited the East Coast for three weeks, spending time with friends and family, reconnecting with old colleagues, and feasting with loved ones. I deliberately planned my journey before and after the Thanksgiving rush, keeping my expenses down and avoiding airport frenzy,
Now, I’m writing this from the air as I head to New York City for what may be the final conference of 2025. (The main conference seasons are spring and fall, but some organizers try to get one last gathering in before the December holiday shut-down).
And, being mindful of the L in Bleisure (which stands for Leisure!), I am adding in a side trip to see my granddaughter in the Nutcracker and celebrate an early Xmas/Hanukkah. (Hallmark movies, anyone?)
So, although I will avoid the holiday mayhem, all that early travel means I will be home alone for the actual holidays. How do you keep the adventure going even when you’re not on the road?
- Make festive plans with friends. Try new venues or simply go out to see the lights.
- Binge movies, books, or streaming series. If you don’t already have a GoodReads account, it’s a great way to set up reading goals for the year and share your faves with friends.
- Gift yourself. Here are some ways to indulge in self-care this holiday season and year-round.
- Take a simple road trip. Travel doesn’t need to involve a plane.
- Travel to the gym. You’ll get a head-start on that weight loss/fitness resolution and will be able to rationalize a few unhealthy holiday splurges.
Above all, select some days or times when you’ll remove the B (Business) from Bleisure Living and totally unplug from work. Tell your team and/or clients you’ll be off the grid and enjoy BEING.
If you’re like me, and always need to have a trip to look forward to, lock in some adventures for 2025.
The holiday season doesn’t need to involve just a couple of calendar days. You can be joyous all year round!
