How to Stay Chill Post-Travel

  • Pigeon poop all over my apartment terrace. A nest with an egg in it amidst he poop and feathers. Protective birds who screeched and flew around every time I walked past the window.
  • A brand-new coffee maker that died after 6 weeks.
  • A robotic script-reading Amazon Customer Service rep who refused to replace the coffee maker. It was later resolved after an annoying 25-minute conversation. At least I was able to get a human (I think) on the phone.
  • A giant load of laundry in my suitcase.

That’s what I encountered after my 12-hour journey back from the East Coast to the West Coast.

The Cape Cod beaches, the fresh lobster, and the precious time with family and friends could have easily vanished from my mind, pulling me out of vacation mode and into real-life vibes.

So, what’s a Bleisure Living woman to do?

  1. Resolve to stay calm. Just committing to yourself not to stress or get depressed is the first step.
  2. Start a new book, crafts project, or streaming series to freshen up your worldview and give you small analog things to look forward to.
  3. Tackle that laundry! Think about how great you’ll feel when it’s folded and back in your closet. While you’re doing it, put on some music that’s evocative of your trip.
  4. Organize your photos and share them with others via Google Photos and start a group chat (unless, of course, you were solo…in which case you can just talk to yourself or AI about them.) If you like to write or consider yourself a content creator, relive your adventures on social media. But don’t overdo it! Your friends are curious, but maybe they don’t care about what you ate for breakfast every day (unless it’s really unusual or photogenic).
  5. Think about and start to plan your next trip (of course).
