How to Beat the Post-Travel Blues

Maybe you had the best, most productive business trip ever.

Or you laughed and relaxed on a vacation with family and/or friends (or even solo).

Or, maybe you fully embrace your Bleisure Living status and have both work and playtime.

But now you’re back home, feeling a little sad and out of place. You have nothing new to explore and are back into your routine. No one is making your bed or serving you coffee or cocktails. And then, you’re dealing with your unpacking and laundry.

We have all experienced the post-travel blues, and they suck!

Here’s how to make it through those days until your next trip.

  1. Practice Gratitude: Scroll back through your videos and pictures; if you don’t already take tons, we encourage you to do so! Spend time reminiscing on those amazing moments and be grateful that you’ve had those experiences. As Winnie The Pooh said “ How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”  Think like Winnie!
  2. Collect tangible tokens. I encourage all travelers to find their special items, such as postcards, foreign currencies, shot glasses, or magnets, and pick up one in each place they go. These small, easily transported mementos not only decorate a space in your home but also help ease that sadness. I’ve even had nostalgia for a successful meeting based on the pen I took from the hotel meeting room.
  3. Find future fun: My best strategy with some of my favorite travel companions is planning (and even booking one component) our next adventure before we leave. They don’t have to be lavish trips. Fun coffee meet-ups or daycations or staycations will work. A sad post-trip flight is relieved when  I see a calendar full of fun.

Post-travel blues are real, but you can ease the pain! Take these tips and make the most out of those days back at home, all while preparing for the next journey
