When many people think of visiting the UK, whether for work or play, they only think of going to London but as I learned from a fantastic recent getaway, Manchester is worth exploring too. Less than a 3-hour, scenic train ride from London and with a large airport of its own, I highly recommend Manchester as a hip, fun, and unique London alternative or a post-Europe business trip add-on.
Ibis Styles Portland Manchester Hotel truly understands Bleisure Living and hosted me for a great stay in a great location with rooms and spaces designed to maximize creativity and add a little fun. The lobby with giant sunglasses, umbrella ceiling, and eclectic on-site dining made me feel like I was in a hip art gallery more than a chain hotel. Rooms were well equipped for business with fast wifi, tons of chargers and bright, unique designs perfect for those cameras-on meetings.
Cloud23 is a must-visit for the best views of Manchester and a perfect spot during the day for business with a noon opening and again at night for leisure with elevated (literally 23 floors up) vibes and great cocktails. I was invited to see their views first-hand. Need to impress a client? This is just the place!
If you are fortunate enough to work hybrid or remote, Manchester has great co-working spaces throughout the walkable city center. For after work or a weekend, I recommend checking out all of the free activities, including the Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester Museum, and the stunning John Rylands Library. There are even reliable and clean free shuttles around the city center and many food and drink options.
Manchester is a great place to make things happen for both business and leisure.
