I’d much rather be called a “lounge lizard” over what flight attendants call gate lice.
Not all airport lounges are created equal, so I’ve compiled a list of ones that make me want to spend time in the airport and arrive early for flights. And, if my flights are delayed or I have a long layover, I go into lounge mode. Here’s where:
- Delta SkyClub LAX Terminal 3: This incredible, new retreat features multiple bars, including one on the stunning outdoor terrace with mountain views. The lounge also has pop-up events including live music and one of my favorite business-travel amenities: private phone booths. The lounge is so business-friendly you may forget you’re in an airport. To access this lounge, I recommend the Platinum Card from American Express.
- Turkish Airlines Lounge Miami Concourse H & J: A ticket to Istanbul is not required to access this tranquil retreat open 24 hours a day and complete with a beautiful food spread, a dedicated sleeping area with loungers, and one of the most luxurious showers I’ve ever had at an airport. Despite having arrived at 5:00 am on a long overnight flight, I appeared so fresh on my 8:00 am ZOOM call that my colleagues thought I was still at home. To access this lounge, I recommend the Priority Pass (included with the previously-mentioned American Express Platinum).
- Minute Suites: If you’ve ever had a big meeting you needed to be distraction-free for, or craved a short nap after a busy day or overnight flight, then Minute Suites are for you! I’ve taken advantage of them in Atlanta and Detroit and they have 16 locations across the country. For a small fee, you enjoy a private, comfortable room with fast wifi, a desk, a TV, and an oh-so-comfortable day bed, pillow, and blanket.
And don’t forget the all-new American Airlines Admirals Club at Newark Airport!
Traveling through an airport with multiple lounges? I frequently use LoungeBuddy to get the inside scoop on which lounges are worth taking a detour for.
Of all my Bleisure Living secrets, having lounge access is absolutely one I don’t think I could live without. But remember, just because that bar is top shelf and completely free doesn’t mean you have to indulge — especially on a business trip.
Avoid being part of the dreaded “lice” and work or relax before you fly. (But remember to watch the time — you may be so relaxed you miss your boarding!)
