Bleisure Living By the Airport: A Day Near LAX

Many times on this site, we highlight taking advantage of working while in magically lush locales or exciting destinations, but we know that isn’t always realistic.

This scenario happened to me, as I had a mission-critical early Monday morning meeting near LAX airport, which required an overnight stay. If your work calls you to the area, here’s a guide to making the most of it and fully living out your best Bleisure Living self.

  1. Rooftop and Resort Pools: Take advantage of the sunny LA weather with some shockingly relaxing pools. My hotel, the Hyatt Place, had stunning views from the floor 15 pool. For a more tranquil vibe, I used Resortpass and booked an affordable afternoon surrounded by palm trees at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott.
  2. Craft Cocktails: Not all are created equal in the dozens of hotel bars near LAX. After watching my hotel bartender have to google what was in a Moscow Mule, I escaped to the beautifully redone Studio 12 Bar and Lounge, located at the Renaissance LA Airport Hotel, an easy walk from most hotels with great hours. In addition to well-made drinks and fresh bites, I was invited to try the Cucumber Cooler cocktail and Cauliflower appetizer; the lounge features 12 local craft beers on tap. This is, without a doubt, the best bar and lounge in the area!
  3. Dawn and Dusk at Dockweiler: There’s just something magical about the ocean after a long, productive business day. Less than a 10-minute and $15 rideshare ride away from the LAX Airport hotels is the shores of Dockweiler Beach, with 3.7 miles of coastline and 288 acres of beach. For bleisure enthusiasts, this is the ultimate way to sneak in leisure before or after the workday. Even spending just 30 minutes walking the beach made all the stress of work disappear.

Next time you see the words “LAX Airport” instead of “Malibu” or “Beverly Hills” on an upcoming business trip or your flight is delayed or canceled, and you have to stay at that dreaded “airport hotel,” don’t be disappointed.

Be delighted as this can be the perfect, great weather destination for a Bleisure Living adventure.
