Want to know how to make the most out of your 2 day weekend trip? The answer is actually complicatedly simple: Time Travel. That’s right… it’s possible to spend 3 hours in the air and arrive in your destination just an hour after you departed and it’s a strategy I recommend regularly. It makes even short trips feel like true getaways. Nobody likes arriving into a new city too late at night, with only fast-food options available so I always suggest for those Friday evening after 5:00 flights…travel west to maximize your evening. Another tip I have for all travelers is to research the opening hours of bars and eateries within walking distance of your hotel…and be sure to factor in that last call and listed closing time are not the same thing. Spend your first night settling in, enjoying something close-by and reviewing your plans for Day 2.
When in your destination, focus on Day 2 as your “must-do day” and make those restaurant reservations in advance with the help of sites such as Resy or OpenTable. Come up with a realistic list of all the things you absolutely want to see in the city and if needed setting up as many time-based reservations, tickets and tours as possible to keep everything on track. Remember, have buffer times built in as nobody wants to rush.
Day 3, or Sunday Funday should really be the mantra as depending on your sleep time and flight time you may only have a few hours. Spend Sunday with a more relaxed pace, doing activities that weren’t necessarily on your “must” list but ones that you truly enjoy. I for example love spending time wandering through art galleries or sipping local coffees.
For your return flight back to your destination, you’ll have to of course give up the hours you initially saved when you time traveled on your departure and as someone who is almost accustomed to seeing the “delayed” next to my city on the flight board, I’d advise NOT taking the last flight out of the night and research (don’t assume your airline will help you) what back up flights exist in the event yours is cancelled. If your return flight gets you in super late, do everything you can to get your home “early morning meeting ready”…whether that’s packing your bag and prepping your outfits to go into the office, getting your coffee ready, or having your work laptop situated you’ll surely be glad you did come work time.
And with those tips in mind Bleisure Living enthusiasts, you’ll be shocked how just a regular weekend can feel like a true escape to a favorite destination or an all-new locale.
