5 Ways to Workation This Holiday Season

The thought of traveling to family and friends when you still have to get work done may seem icky (although it’s a good excuse to escape both people and drama).
Here’s how to deal:
  1. Secure a connection. Don’t rely on home Wifi for calls, and don’t be that relative awkwardly working at the kitchen table…research a local coffee shop or co-working space.
  2. Have YOUR freedom. For me, I need access to a car to take a quiet call in or even to be able to leave on my own terms…if a hotel room is convenient I can’t recommend this enough too…plus the year is almost over for those of you chasing elite status.
  3. Protect your peace. Being a part of the fam is usually better than sitting on a phone call or Zoom, but recognize your stressors and prioritize your own well-being. Watch a show or movie before going to bed? Borrow a fave relative for a day spa treatment or shopping excursion? Something fun in the area you can do before returning home?
  4. Treat yourself! Balancing it all is difficult, and when things go right, we often forget to notice…this is a great trip to splurge for an in-flight upgrade or five-star meal when you get back home…plus you’ll be able to focus on this treat the entire time.
  5. Rally your troops! If going home is stressful, make sure to let your close friends know in advance. This is true for your coworkers as well…let others know your travel plans and if your role allows, divide and conquer your workload.
