Calm Plane Flying

Be Safe! Bleisure Living Tips

Let’s face it. The world is in chaos!

This year, we’ve seen some of the world’s largest airports close entirely due to unrest, and things don’t seem to be getting calmer anytime soon.

For travelers, especially those looking to work from a different location for a few days, this can cause a lot of anxiety.

Will my flights get cancelled? Will my meetings be rescheduled? Will my friends or colleagues even be able to make it?

Here are a few tips to keep you protected both physically and emotionally.

  1. Book changeable tickets: Although “basic economy” may appear as a slightly better deal, we always recommend purchasing airfare and hotels that allow for modification, so you can change your mind. Be sure to look at the fare rules carefully so you aren’t disappointed. Pro tip: Almost all airlines offer a free 24-hour refund just in case.
  2. Be flexible with location: Later this Summer, I’m adjusting my plans from 5 days in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt, to 5 days in Crete, Greece. If you’ve already requested work from anywhere, days, or paid time off, don’t let it go to waste.
  3. Research local issues: In London, phone theft is continually on the rise, so it’s best to keep your phone in your pocket, whereas in Rome, pickpocketing is still an issue. In certain cities, public transportation or taxis may be safer than Uber. Do your homework on each location you visit, so you know what to avoid and where. Traveling with colleagues? Be sure to share your research with them as well!
  4. Share your travel plans: Whether it’s with a trusted friend, family member, or colleague, I’ve recently started sharing my travel plans (flights/hotels/main activities) so people know where I am and when I should be there. I also use the Uber Share feature, so someone can track my ride if I’m traveling alone. It never hurts to be overly cautious.

If your anxiety about traveling overrides your enjoyment of a trip, consider a staycation instead.

Be aware, adaptable, and have a fantastic, safe travel summer!
