What Did the Bleisure Living Team Do This Summer?

Of course, we indulged in Bleisure Living! Here’s what the team was up to!

Matt Caldwell, our Editor-in-Chief, cheered on Team USA at the Olympic Games across France this summer. He balanced work by being extra-prepared for his six days out of office, which is the most he’s taken since starting his job. (He also relocated to the UK at the end of the summer!)

He learned that with excellent planning and support, it’s not only possible but also highly recommended to take some time entirely out and try your best to disconnect occasionally. He also re-learned the importance of seeing many different places on one trip because, even with research, you never know what you’ll love and what you won’t.

Nancy A Shenker took a 30-day trip without a hard-and-fast itinerary but managed to get all her work done from hotel rooms and even the beach. (And she went to Iowa, which was a new experience!)

She learned that I can be somewhat spontaneous in my travels and that she doesn’t always need a plan. She’s already mapping out mini-escapes for the fall! (Plus, she settled in on a few fashionable “uniforms,” which will make packing much easier in the future.)

Karla Guadron is our Fashion and Lifestyle Trends Editor. Her summer involved spending time in Alaska, which she says expanded her perspective because of how vast, beautiful, and culturally different it was. She had in-depth conversations with locals and learned about their daily lives, which involved spending a lot of time doing outdoor activities and using the resources around them. For example, fishing and making meals from what they catch, hunting, and woodworking.

She was reminded she needs to spend more time outdoors! “Reconnect with nature” is on her vision board for this year. She was also reminded that when you mingle with locals while traveling, you gain nuance and depth. A far cry from NY Fashion Week!

Denise Rosplock, our sustainability superstar, joined the Sustainable Finger Lakes Board of Directors, a climate advocacy non-profit based in Ithaca, NY, her new hometown, and represented the group at her first climate leaders coalition. (She is also renovating her new house!)

She learned that can easier for solo travelers to make new connections in new places than you might think.  If you take your passion on the road, regardless of the destination, you’ll find your tribe.  A little pre-relo research into climate-related agencies generated several new, welcoming connections before all the boxes were unpacked!

Now that we’re all back to work at our “day jobs” (which, of course, involve Bleisure Living), watch for our fall/winter/holiday tips and trends.
