No, we’re not talking about bed bugs here (although that could be a topic for a future article).
We’re talking about the wanderlust that strikes many of us when we’ve been working too long in one place.
I moved into a co-working office (Industrious) earlier this month, thinking it might be a cure for my itch to see and experience a new place and connect with new people.
And that worked for about two weeks.
February was supposed to be my “stay put” month and it will work out that way (mostly).
I just decided to spend a night in Tucson (a 2-hour drive) and booked a few days at the Paséa Hotel & Spa in March, so I could attend Expo West and catch up with my California friends and colleagues. After that, I have a Disney World trip planned with family. But the first two adventures are a belated birthday gift to myself.
I’ve always been this way. I find a variety of workplaces and locations delivers all seven of these benefits.
Plus, long drives and flights give me a chance to ruminate, listen to books and music, and have extended conversations with old friends (in the car only, hands-free!)
If my suitcase could talk it would be whining, “Pack me!” every couple of weeks. But it doesn’t. I do, however, have an internal clock and compass that lets me know when the time has come to see a different geography and interact with strangers.
Doctors once believed that wanderlust was a disease. Happily, they were wrong!
Bon voyage (again)!
