THE “B” IN BLEISURE
I arrived a day early so I could get some work done before the festivities begin. Apparently, no luxury hotels exist in Leesburg, Virginia. But the Hampton Inn is convenient and has the basics, like a bed, a shower with good water pressure, an in-room coffee maker and fridge, and even a free breakfast! Hilton’s mission statement is:
“To fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality by delivering exceptional experiences – every hotel, every guest, every time.”
Perhaps the “exceptional” part is a bit of a stretch. Here is my room:
A bed A chair and noisy AC
But it does have relatively high-speed Internet and enough outlets to power my (many) devices.
I worked throughout the day on Thursday and was still getting text messages about a time-sensitive project on Friday while sitting at a family dinner. Sometimes, the B creeps into the L in Leisure (especially if you own your business) and you just have to go with the flow.
Management & Time Tips: Surround yourself with professionals who truly respect your personal time and don’t leave projects to the last possible minute. “Time block” your days so you can step away to enjoy life at certain hours.
I did, finally, unplug (literally and figuratively) and was able to spend most of Saturday “pre-gaming” for the wedding — manis/pedis and blow-outs with my daughters (Kudos to Leesbury Nail Spa and Running With Scissors), a family lunch at this cool place, and of course the traditional rehearsal dinner.
What do you think?
